Questions We Hear

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to decide on a National Insurance disability claim?

It depends on the type of disability. General disability (https://www.btl.gov.il/benefits/Disability/Pages/default.aspx) — a medical committee within 4–6 months. Occupational disability (https://www.btl.gov.il/benefits/Work_Injury/Pages/%D7%9E%D7%94%D7%99%20%D7%A4%D7%92%D7%99%D7%A2%D7%94%20%D7%91%D7%A2%D7%91%D7%95%D7%93%D7%94.aspx) — usually faster, 2–4 months. An appeal against rejection extends the process by an additional 6–12 months. Current 2026 benefit rates are published by the National Insurance Institute (https://www.btl.gov.il/About/news/Pages/hadasaidkonkitzva2026.aspx): full general disability is NIS 4,711/month from 01.01.2026, NIS 6,229/month with a non-disabled-spouse supplement.

Is it worth appealing a rejected disability claim?

In many cases — yes. Many of the appeals we have handled have led to a change in the disability rating, depending on the specific circumstances of the file, because at the appeal stage you know what the committee is looking for and can prepare the medical record accordingly. Each case is assessed on its own facts.

What is the relationship between National Insurance disability and Ministry of Defence disability?

These are two separate tracks. General disability and work injury are handled by Bituach Leumi (https://www.btl.gov.il/benefits/Disability/Pages/default.aspx). War casualties, reserve-duty soldiers and hostile-act victims must file with each body separately, with a medical file tailored to the criteria of that body.
