# Fees and Engagement with the Firm

Full transparency on representation costs, external fees, and the written agreement — before we begin.

Fees are a foundational condition of engagement. We explain all components in writing before representation begins, so there are no surprises along the way.

## Initial Inquiry

The initial consultation — by phone, in the office, or by video — is provided at no charge. By the end of the conversation you will receive an initial assessment of the case and information on what to expect next. The initial conversation does not create an attorney-client relationship until an engagement agreement is signed.

## Written Fee Agreement

Legal representation at the firm begins only after a written fee agreement is signed. The agreement details:

- How fees are calculated (flat fee, percentage, or a combination — depending on case type)
- Scope of representation — which instances and proceedings are included
- Payment terms and schedule
- External costs not included in the fees
- Termination policy on either side

## External Costs That May Be Required

Some costs are not the firm's fees but external expenses borne by the client. We will explain each at the time of signing:

- Court / tribunal filing fees
- Medical expert opinions (in disability and malpractice cases)
- Translation services, private investigators, or vocational experts — where required
- Enforcement costs — if relevant to the case
- Copies from medical files or files of public bodies

## When Are Fees Outcome-Dependent?

In certain case types — primarily personal injury and compensation claims — fees may be a percentage of the compensation amount. In others — primarily representation before medical committees of public bodies, or insolvency proceedings — fees are usually a flat amount. In every case, the specific mechanism is detailed in the written agreement.

We do not use marketing promises such as "no win — no fee" unless the term is precisely relevant to the specific case and is detailed in the written agreement. Any vague phrasing about fees — does not bind the firm legally. Only the signed agreement is binding.

## What the Client Receives in Writing

- Full fee agreement — before representation begins
- Confirmation of document receipt
- Summary of substantive meetings
- Updates on every substantive decision in the case
- At the conclusion of the matter — a written summary of the outcomes and next-step instructions

## Common Questions Before Engagement

Before signing, it is advisable to ask: what is included in the fees and what is not; the expected timeline; which professional at the firm will handle the case; and what happens if an additional stage outside the original agreement is required. We answer these questions in the meeting — before signing.
